Calphalon Contemporary Stainless 10-Inch Omelet Pan

Calphalon Contemporary Stainless 10-Inch Omelet Pan
Wonderful Cookware, I own the entire set of Calphalon Contemporary and use it daily. These pans are outstanding; the heat distribution is excellent (I've checked it with a laser thermometer), it's nicely weighted and the curved sides on the pan itself are excellent when flipping contents (which makes you look quite professional, if I do say so myself).

As for the handles, the curved design makes it easy to keep the contents of the pan level when picking it up and they stay surprisingly cool during cooking. While they're long enough to give the proper leverage, they are slightly shorter than some other pans I've used. This is a tremendous benefit though - I have two little girls in the house and I always point the handles inward toward the center of my cooktop; because they're slightly shorter, they don't overlap or tangle with one another.

I did notice another reviewer remark that food sticks to them and that they're hard to clean. I don't want to pick on anyone, but I suspect that the problem lies more in the cleaning and prep than the pan itself. As a general rule, stainless cookware needs a reasonable coating of fat or oil before the cooking contents are added. Even if a recipe calls for a certain amount of oil at the onset, a few drops swished around the bottom and sides of the pan before heating works wonders.
Love me some Calphalon, I've purchased the SS as a replacement for a non-stick Calphalon skillet that I enjoyed using. It's holding up well to my cooking style, which involves a fair amount of high-temp quick cooking that sears the meats I use.
Brand Name that Sticks with YOU, (What's this?) I bought this for my wife. I read reviews about pots/pans where non-stick coatings could be dangerous or peel off. While this is not a problem, the food sticks to this skillet like a magnet.
I love this pan!, (What's this?) I have purchased many pots and pans in this collection. I have the exact pan in non-stick but wanted the stainless version. Now I've had some mishaps (tilapia) but for the most part the pan has performed extremely well. It heats up very fast and I have a ceramic cooktop. I love the feeling of cooking with out non-stick cookware. I plan on purchasing the 12 inch soon.

Contemporary Stainless is for home chefs who place as much importance on cookware style as they do on performance. The sleek, modern vessels in this line have curvaceous and smooth flared tulip shapes that create a stunning presence while heating on a stovetop or hanging from a pot rack. The brushed steel exteriors are a beautiful complement to professional stainless-steel appliances and are less likely to show baked-on grease or wear than a polished finish can. Gracefully curved stainless-steel handles are comfortable to clutch and are forked in a half-moon shape at the riveted base to prevent heat from transferring down the shaft.

Heating in this 10-inch round omelet pan is sure to satisfy the performance requirements of discerning cooks. The pan boasts triple-layer construction with stainless-steel exteriors bonded over a full aluminum core that extends up the sides as well as through the bottom. Aluminum is an excellent heat conductor, providing consistent cooking of fish fillets or chicken breasts or uniform setting of eggs for a frittata. The sloping sides keep food from spilling out during cooking but then aid serving as crepes or omelets slide right out. The stainless-steel surfaces are safe in the oven and can withstand broiler temperatures as well as the use of metal utensils. All Contemporary Stainless is dishwasher-safe for quick cleanup and is covered by a lifetime warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

Tramontina Griddle with 4 pancake rings., (What's this?) The tramontina griddle is heavy duty anodized aluminum with a thick non-stick cooking surface. The handles are sturdy and and the pancake rings are well made. As with other Tramontina items I have purchased in the passed they are of good quality. The instructions are well written on the outside of the box with regard to using medium heat while cooking, initial seasoning and cleaning. Basically, they are common sense directions for anyone with cooking experience. The item is as pictured on the box and the quality is better than anything you will find in the big box stores which sell for around the same price ($40) and you don't even have to waste fuel driving to the big box stores to see their light weight junk. Approximate Dimensions are 13 inches (33cm) wide and 20 1/4 inches (51.5cm) in length and the pancake rings are 5inches (13cm) wide.

Bayou Classic 7436, 12" Cast Iron Square Skillet

Bayou Classic 7436, 12" Cast Iron Square Skillet
Do not buy this skillet, (What's this?) Please do not buy this skillet. I purchased the skillet for a gift for my mother-in-law. when she received it the skillet was cracked beside the handle and you could see right through the skillet. Not only that but the quality of the item was very poor not an even thickness to the cast iron at all. Rough felling. I would stay away from this skillet save your money.
Size Will Fool You, (What's this?) ASIN:B000VXIQY8 Bayou Classic 7436, 12" Cast Iron Square Skillet]]

I thought I was really smart. I went in the kitchen and measured a skillet to see how large 12" would be. WELL, I was really upset when I got it. You have to measure from corner to corner. It was smaller than I had thought. For a good iron skillet ,it's a good buy. But, I can only get 2 chops in it at one time.
I ordered one but it never came, Now I think I'm thankful it didn't. The corner handle seemed like it would be more convenient, but I was specifically looking for a square 12" skillet, and NOT diagonally! That is misleading advertising, unless you're selling tv sets, which everyone knows are measured diagonally.
Not the true size as labeled., (What's this?) I thought I was buying a 12" square pan. I searched on other websites to find more info about size but even Bayou Classic does not give the size. Other sites were also off. I gave faith to Amazon and ordered the pan.

    Here are the real measurements:
    Outside lip 10.4" square
Inside at the top 9.9" square
Inside at the bottom 8.6" square
Corner to corner, it does measure 12" at the top edge
Corner to end of handle, 16.8" long.
Basically the pan is the same size as the Lodge 10 1/4" square pan.

It felt lighter in weight compared to the Lodge square pan, which can be good, you get the same results of cast iron, but lighter for better handling. You do need to season it.

I have other Bayou Classic pieces and the quality is not quite the Lodge quality but the price you can't beat to get the same cooking results. I plan to buy other Bayou Classics again.

    All-Clad Stainless 14-Inch Fry Pan

    All-Clad Stainless 14-Inch Fry Pan
    Kazzy,
I just love this pan. I use this pan almost every night. It cleans up beautiful. I just purchased this for my son and his wife and they love it also.
Decent pan but expensive and no lid available, This is a very well made pan and it cooks really well. I was really disappointed that it did not come with a lid and in fact the manufacturer does not even make one. There are several dishes that I specifically bought this for, but they require a lid to be cooked properly. I corresponded with Amazon but they did not help me find a lid that could be used, so I am on my own. May be difficult to find one that will fit right. For the price, I would have to say I'm disappointed.
Great pan, but not for everyone., I got this pan a month ago, mainly to round out my collection (wow, it looks great hanging on my rack!) To be honest, I was a bit worried about how much use I'd actually get out of it.How wrong I was! It's absolutely spectacular for recipies that require large amounts of sauted vegatables. I love being able to saute several large onions, peppers, etc. at the same time.Where it really shines is searing meat in prepartion for roasting. I love to roast, particularly pork and lamb. Only a pan like this lets you sear an entire pork tenderloin without any acrobatics. It's definitely not for everyone, but I really enjoy using it.
Up to its usual excellence., Superior feel. Cooking results were as advertised. I am very satisfied and will continue to seek out all-clad products.
Great, the second time around..., I was very hesitant to spend close to $160 on a single fry pan, but I had heard so many good things about All-Clad and thought it would be a wise investment. For the first 6 months, the pan was great. I loved the large size and used it often. I was just about ready to invest in an entire set of All-Clad cookware when my pan warped. I was using it on an electric stove as usual, and the pan just simply warped. I was thoroughly disappointed that a $160 pan would warp during normal use. I won't be spending this kind of money again.

****Follow-up. I contacted All-Clad regarding the warped pan-they had me send it in for evaluation, and yesterday a brand new one showed up at my door. I'm impressed at their customer service and the fact that they stand behind their product.
For a lifetime, (What's this?) All Clad is the best! Bought this as a wedding gift because I already got one. Perfect size for sauteing or frying for 2+ without crowding.
It's BIG, (What's this?) Yep, this is a big pan. But when you need something this big, nothing is better that we've tried.
Great pan!, (What's this?) Yes, it's a REALLY big pan! A perfect cookware addition for the serious cook. Surprisingly, the pan isn't as heavy as I expected and is a manageable size. It will easily saute 6 to 8 chicken breasts at once without crowding and is perfect for large batches. It heats evenly and lives up to the All-Clad quality I expected. Easy cleanup, too! Highly recommended.

Demeyere Proline 5-Star 11" Frying Pan

Demeyere Proline 5-Star 11" Frying Pan
Jewelry for the kitchen - and practical too!, (What's this?) I love all of my Demeyere pans and this is no exception. They all heat evenly and clean up beautifully every time.
Great pans, (What's this?) Very good pan. Thick material up to the edges really makes a difference in terms of even heating. Even though there's not a nonstick coating on this, it cleans up easily. (Furthermore, there are ways to cook without making a mess in the first place.)

I actually think people put too much emphasis on their cookware. As long as you're not cooking in a bad pan (e.g. a $20 one from Ikea), most pans work well. People fall for the cookware endorsed by Martha Stewart and Michel Bras and other celebrity chefs. When I was picking out cookware, I almost decided to go with Mauviel upon seeing a large display of it, simply because it looked nice and I knew it was a "high class" brand of cookware. That said, these pans have the benefit of working on induction stoves and having welded (rivet-less) handles. (Mine has a helper handle across from the main handle, but I don't see it in this picture?) My dad has restaurant-grade pans (Lincoln or WearEver), and they perform similarly despite the price difference. His are, however, not ones I'd leave out or display in an open kitchen system.

I also own Demeyere stock pots and sauce pans, and like them all.
Comparison of Demeyere Atlantis vs. Falk Copper (Heat Transfer and Boiling Speed), You buy copper pans for heat transfer speed and the benefits of its resulting responsiveness to changes in heat. You buy other pans like Demeyere because they are easier to care for.

Ease of care is important to me, but so is performance. I wanted to find out for sure if the heat transfer differences were very substantial, so I bought a Falk 10.5 quart 11" stock pot and a Demeyere Atlantis 8.5 quart 9" stock pot. (Falk is 2.5mm brushed copper coated with a .008" thick stainless (not tin) lining. They are equivalent to high-end Mauviel or Bourgeat in technical respects, except that they have a brushed finish rather than a mirror polish.)

Starting with a room-temperature stove (in both tests) on a 15k BTU gas burner on high-heat, I timed how long it took to bring *equal* amounts of cold water (same temperature) to a rolling boil. Why a mundane test like boiling water? Because it's an ideal test of the pans' ability to transfer heat rapidly and efficiently. A pan that boils faster is also going to be more adept at quickly handling subtle temperature changes when melting sugar or carmelizing a mound of onions and garlic. A pan that boils water faster is also more energy efficient, which benefits you by not having to introduce as much heat into the kitchen to accomplish the same cooking task (and consequently, to use energy to remove that heat with an air condition during summer months).

The Demeyere took 26 minutes to reach a rolling boil.
The Falk took 19.5 minutes to reach a rolling boil (about 25% faster).

The Falk was extremely responsive to temperature changes. Cutting the heat ceased the boiling within 5-10 seconds.

The Demeyere responded to a heat cut in 8-15 seconds or longer. Restoring the heat resulted in similar lags in returning the pots to full boil.
Nice pan, I'm very happy with the pan. No rivets is definitely a plus. Handle design is also more comfortable than the All-clad.
Even heating, helper handle (not pictured) excellent pan!, (What's this?) I enjoyed reading some of the other reviews about this pan and have to say most of them are very accurate. The only exception I find is that the pan doesn't seem to be as easy to clean as some would claim. It is a stainless steel pan, so if something gets a little too hot or you don't have enough oil it will stick (eggs come to mind). I now use a carbon steel griddle for eggs which works so much better with less oil. To clean the Demeyere proline, I found that one of the blue scrub sponges is usually sufficient for anything that gets stuck (it is designed to scrub but will not scratch the surface of this pan). In one particularly bad case, some canola oil splatters got very sticky and I couldn't get it off until I used some Dawn Power Dissolver. The pan looked absolutely new again.

Go to Sur La Table to see these pans in person, then buy it for much cheaper here at Amazon. You will see that the handle is the most comfortable of anything out there. The 11-inch has a helper handle not shown in the picture.

The even heating of this pan is incredible, so much better than a cast iron skillet.
amazing pan, (What's this?) With this pan, you too can get tasty Maillard reactions.
Beautifully crafted, high quality, fry pan, I ended up deciding on Demeyere after reading many reviews and watching a few youtube videos from the manufacture. First impression, I liked that it did not have rivets! Especially with fry pans, rivets can be so difficult to clean as food gets trapped; which also worries me about potential bacteria.
This pan is incredibly heavy, which took some time to get use to but so well made. It takes a while to heat up as others have mentioned. I use the water test to make sure it's at the correct temperature before adding anything, including oil. (Check out the free video on [...

Circulon Contempo Hard Anodized Nonstick 8-Inch, 10-Inch and 11-Inch Open Skillets Triple Pack
Circulon non-stick fry pans, (What's this?) Most of the reviews we read were in praise of these pans. We agree. However, initially, upon receiving the pans, we were sceptical as the instructions said quite clearly - Do Not use high or medium high heat when using the pans.
Oh, baby baby. I want more!, (What's this?) These skillets are made of WIN. They cook exactly as advertised - evenly, quickly, hot and FAST.

Pay attention to the instructions and you won't go wrong. Wash 'em first, inside and out. The first time you cook with them, run your exhaust fan in case of any fumes burning off of the bottom of the pan. (I smelled nothing.) Don't dry them with heat after you wash. Don't wash with anything harsher than a cloth or a soft nylon bristle and some Dawn. Wipe 'em dry.

    All-Clad LTD2 10-Inch Nonstick Fry Pan

    All-Clad LTD2 10-Inch Nonstick Fry Pan
Amazing pan- for a few years (don't believe the warranty), I loved this pan and used it frequently for many years. In the past two years I've noticed some flaking of the non-stick coating. I went to their website and read about many flaking issues actually just being hardened food particles so I dutifully scrubbed with baking soda to no avail. I finally decided i would send it back but received the following via email from All-Clad:
"Most instances when the non-stick coating has lost its' non-stick properties, it is due to overheating of the pan. Cookware with non-stick coatings should be used on low to medium heat settings. Due to the superior quality of All-Clad cookware the cookware will heat up quicker and retain the heat. One indication that your pan has been overheated is that your non-stick has turned a brown or rusty color. Overheating of the non-stick coating will cause the non-stick properties to break down. As a result you will find that foods are sticking to the cookware. Overheating voids the warranty. You may try to clean the non-stick coating with a mixture of baking soda and mild dish detergent using a soft cloth. Depending on the degree of overheating, this may help return some of the
    non-stick performance."
You will also void the warranty by dishwashing or using metal utensils. I've never done either but this one I can't promise about. Did I use more than medium heat? Are you kidding?! I can't imagine why a pan designated for use on the stove top can't take high heat without being damaged. I thought being durable was what I was paying for with All-clad. grrrrrr.......
In other words - if you send your pan back they will likely find some way that you voided your warranty and return it to you.
Love the LTD2 line, (What's this?) I got this as a Warehouse deal from Amazon and didn't really notice any defects with it. The nonstick surface is great - it's a bit rougher texture than my old Calphalon pans. Not sure how that helps performance, but it's definitely effective. Love the long handle. This is a heavy duty pan.

    UPDATE:
I've been using the pan for about a year now, and I've noticed the outer coating has worn away slightly in spots where it's prone to abrasion. Also, hardened grease doesn't seem to clean very easily from the outside surface, and I'm nervous to use my barkeeps friend cleaner on it. I will probably stick to the stainless varieties from now on.
Pan after my own heart, Even at the lowest heat food cooks evenly. When I soak this nonstick pan I can rinse off the food with the minimum of wiping. By using a rubber spatula I avoid any scratches so the pan stays perfect. Definitely worth the money.
Top quality, like everything from All Clad, (What's this?) Excellent frying pan. Plenty of space for large meals, or making pancakes. Non-stick surface is high quality, and doesn't scrape off. (we have a 10" that is seven years old, as good as new). The head is evenly distributed across the surface of the pan. The long handle doesn't get hot. It is a little heavy, but that's the trade off for durability and even heat distribution. Could use a second handle opposite the main handle, like their large saute pans.
Are you agonizing over 14" AC LTD2 Fry Pan versus AC 13" French Skillet Pan?, When I need to cook large breakfasts, this is the pan I use. I have the 14" LTD2 fry pan in the non-stick version which has the same handle as the Copper Core line which is longer and wider which in my opinion gives better comfort and control for this largest of All Clad's fry pan.

I originally decided to buy an All-Clad Stainless 13-Inch French Skillet over this All Clad 14" fry pan since both pan bottoms are the same diameter (same amount of cooking surface). But the French skillet's pan top has a smaller diameter than the 14" fry pan due to the steeper slope. When I need to cover the French skillet when cooking, I can use the lid from my All Clad 6 quart sauté pan. There is no All Clad lid I know that I can cover the 14" fry pan, not even if you buy it separately. But, as another person noticed, the 13" French skillet has a noticeable high pan center that I first noticed when frying eggs on it (the eggs kept sliding away from the center of the pan). You may not care if you cook omelets but then the pan's utility is limited. The LTD2 14" fry pan is about one pound heavier than the All Clad 13" French skillet (4.11 lbs versus 3.1 lbs). Both pans heat up equally fast and evenly on my gas range.

This is my first All Clad LTD2 piece (I have a 12" fry pan and 1 quart sauce pan in the original LTD). I noticed that the anodized finish of the original LTD series is not very hard and wears away quite easily when compared with the original Calphalon anodized aluminum finish. Only time will tell how well the newer hard anodized finish will last.

    PROS:
The 14" fry pan bottom is level so it can allow for frying eggs when compared with the 13" French skillet (which has a noticeable raised pan center).
Has the longer and wider Copper Core style handle which provides better control when compared with the same pan in Stainless or original LTD.
Nearly perfect, When I saw this skillet on clearance I snatched it up. I had been wanting to try all clad but not being wealthy I hesitated. This is such a great little pan. It makes the perfect egg, perfect toasted cheese, no hot spots anywhere, just even cooking. The 8 inch skillet weighs more that some of my 12 inchers, because of the heavy quality construction. The handle is very comfortable and attached well. My husband and both sons reach for this skillet first, despite my having two hanging racks of pots and skillets.
It Warps, I'm a big fan of All-Clad cookware. I own several types (LTD, Stainless, copper core). None of them have given me any trouble except for this skillet. The outside warps after only a few uses so that the pan wobbles and won't sit flat. I've replace it several times but with each pan the same results occur. Very disappointing because otherwise it is an excellent pan. The handle is comfortable, the outside is very scratch resistant, the pan is thick and heavy and heats very evenly. I think that All-Clad has a problem with the LTD2 line. It they can fix it they will have a winner. Right now though, I'd avoid it.

  • Nonstick fry pans are safe in the oven to 500F but should not be placed under a broiler
  • All-Clad fry pans' versatile shape and size make them a frequent choice for scrambling eggs and bacon on Sunday morning, or preparing a quick chicken sauté dinner on a weeknight
  • 10-Inch Nonstick Fry Pan
